Omaha Creative Institute strengthens the creative fabric of Omaha by facilitating engagement between artists and the community and by providing artists the resources needed to enrich their careers. OCI offers business training to professional working artists, creative hands-on workshops for individuals and groups, and community-wide art projects.
Learn how to capture a compelling image and make it even better through touch-up, resizing, special effects, etc. Using the photo editing tool Light Room, you will explore endless creative options for your images. Bring your digital camera.
Explore the possibilities of printing on both sides of paper simultaneously! Participants will use stencils, carved relief blocks, paint and ink in order to create their own unique two-sided images. Be prepared to get your hands dirty as you push the boundaries of traditional printmaking.
This class will introduce participants to the autobiographical genre known as creative nonfiction. Through a combination of short readings, discussion, and guided writing, attendees will learn the fundamental methods and meanings of creative nonfiction and begin several of their own autobiographical compositions.
Explore color, pattern, texture and design. You’ll mix oil colors with softened beeswax to achieve depth and surface texture on high-quality archival paper. You’ll leave the session with the pieces you make and some insight into creativity. All you need to bring is your curiosity and openness to experimentation.
Learn to paint, create and let go in this fast-paced mixed media class where you’ll end up with a 12x12-finished piece that needs no framing. You’ll explore innovative painting techniques and quick collage techniques. You’ll leave the thinking and stress at the door while you let your inner creative guide out to play.
You will learn chords and a few rhythms with the goal of playing and singing songs by the end of the workshop. Ukuleles will be provided, but let us know if you're bringing your own. No musical experience necessary.

Come learn the fun and affordable process of printmaking with Styrofoam. Local artist Courtney Kenny Porto will teach the fundamental steps of printmaking for beginners. Be prepared to get messy and make prints for unique gifts and décor.
Bring a photo or object to work from or use one provided.
Filmmakers Jonathan Tvrdik and Tessa Wedberg will guide participants in collectively writing an original scene while demonstrating how to outline and script for the page. Participants then will learn to board each shot, block the scene, and further explore the process of visual storytelling.
