Join us for the closing reception of A Coral Room, OCI's first Artist-Run Exhibition, curated by Jamie Hardy.

The first installment of Omaha Creative Institute’s Artist-Run Exhibition Program, A Coral Room, curated by Jamie Hardy, examines collaborative art practices’ influence on building community. Hardy considers location and proximity as contingent factors in establishing collaborative partnerships and sees Omaha’s central location as a crossroads where ideas are exchanged and circulated. As the city develops, and more people shore themselves up here, those ideas, actions, changes, motivations, and passions become a reef that grows with each new sketched pattern, built structure, written word, looped sound, etc.

Participating artists are invited to contribute work in hues of coral to an expanding installation located in Hardy’s apartment over a two week period. Each artist consents that their work can also be built upon or manipulated by those that follow to construct a conversation free of reductive, diametrically opposed points of view. Participating artists include Celeste Butler, Samone Davis, Alex Jochim, Will Anderson, and Jamie Hardy, all of whom will invite others to contribute, effectively expanding the reef. The istallation, in its final format will be on view during the closing reception.

Jamie Danielle Hardy holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts, with an emphasis in Printmaking, from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Her work explores the impermanence of life by examining the transitions that occur across time, between places and within redefined desires. She is the Co-Founder of Benson First Friday and Petshop Gallery.

About Artist-Run Exhibitions: The Artist-Run Exhibitions Program emphasizes professional development by lending backbone support to Omaha-area artists throughout the process of organizing, marketing, and mounting a curated exhibition outside the context of larger institutional systems.
