Woven: The Embodied Loom

  • Gifford Park Neighborhood Market 33 & California St Omaha, NE 68131 (map)

RSVP

Join OCI Spring Creative Grant recipients Victoria Hoyt and Camille Hawbaker at the Gifford Park Neighborhood Market on Friday, September 1st at 6:30pm for an introduction to "Woven". Grab your veggies for the week and lend your hands to The Embodied Loom.

Omaha is a tapestry of people working together to weave the social fabric of the city. Local artists Victoria Hoyt and Camille Hawbaker will work with you and other participants to perform a living picture of the interwoven nature of the "fabric of society" as you weave a section of a rug together. Explore the ways that intersecting identities are impacted by the social structures surrounding every person. Your thoughts and personal experiences can be written on the fabric strips that get woven into the rug. Afterwards, the rug will be joined to other pieces the artists will weave with various people in Omaha, creating a floor tapestry: "The Warp and Weft of Us."

No previous knowledge is needed - just an open mind and willing hands.
